Progress in Listening skills: understanding of gist and specific details: Note taking and sentence completion, multiple choice and matching, dialogues, monologues, telephone conversation, radio programmes, announcements. Development of Conversation skills: focus on accuracy and fluency. Giving information, points of view, participating in discussions, making polite interruptions, apologising and making and responding to suggestions. Pronunciation is integrated throughout the course to help students become more fluent by focusing on phonological aspects of spoken English. Expansion of vocabulary: lexical exercises practising and activating essential vocabulary related to selected topics including lexical fields, collocations, word families, fixed phrases, phrasal verbs and idioms. Reading comprehension (Extracts, multiple matching exercises, gapped texts, multiple choice questions) through a variety of authentic stimulating reading texts. Focus on sub skills such as skimming and scanning. Certain grammar points are revised throughout the course to develop the students' knowledge and to gain a sense of progression. These points include: simple and continuous aspects; activity and state verbs, present perfect , the passive, quantifiers, describing future events; modal verbs. Complementary writing tasks: formal and informal letters, emails, reports, reviews, a discursive article. |
