2. CONTENTS 2.1. To ensure the practical usefulness of the course for future translators, the texts chosen will deal with a variety of legal issues (matters of criminal law, civil law, administrative procedure, cases in tort, contract, business law, and so on) and text types (extracts from textbooks, legislation, judgments and law reports). The idea is, as far as possible, to ensure scope as well as depth of knowledge. Though most of the material used will be formal in character, newspaper articles on law matters will also be included to encourage students to notice and deal with stylistic problems and related features (the translation of headlines, variations in register, colloquialism, popular and journalistic quasi-legal jargon, etc). |
