Metodología docente (2009-10)
Clases teóricas y prácticas
There will be four hours of core study per week plus one hour for oral practice & presentations.
- Part 1: one hour will be devoted to GRAMMAR from a formal point of view and will cover lessons 9-18 of the book "Grammar in Gobbets". Students will be expected to prepare these lessons at home so that class time may be used to explain difficulties and clarify doubts.
- Part 2: two hours will deal with the material in the 6 Teaching Units which will be on the "Campus Virtual" (reading texts, writing exercises, use of English, etc...). The methodology implied in the construction of the six units is "communicative" in the sense that it requires active participation in class practice.
- Students are expected to improve their writing skills during the course by writing on a regular basis. Students will be required to prepare at home two writing assignments.
The first essay is to be handed in on the "Campus Virtual" until the day fo the written exam, 12th January 2010.
The second essay is to be handed in on the "Campus Virtual" until the day of the written exam, 2nd June 2010.
The essays can be related to any of the topics dealt with in any of the 6 teaching units.
- Part 3: one hour, oral practice, students will give an oral presentation on a topic of their choice in class. Students who do not give an oral presentation or do not pass it will have to do an oral exam in June. The presentation may be given individually or in a group of up to 3 people.

Instrumentos y criterios de evaluación (2009-10)
Evaluación continua, examen final
Assessment will be an ongoing process taking into account class participation and there will be a written exam in February and written and oral exams in June.
N.B. BEFORE SITTING THE WRITTEN EXAMS IN FEBRUARY AND JUNE STUDENTS MUST PASS A GRAMMAR TEST. If they do not pass the grammar test, they cannot sit the exams. The written exams will comprise two parts: 1. reading comprehension/vocabulary, 2. writing an essay. Averages will not be taken unless the student has scored a minimum of 5 in each part.
The final mark will be calculated as follows:
- Written exam February 2009: grammar (1 hour) + vocabulary/essay (2 hours) 27`5%
- Written exam June 2009: grammar (1 hour) + vocabulary/essay (2 hours) 27`5%
- Laboratory work/Writing assignments 20%
- Oral presentation/exam 20% (Students who pass the oral presentation will not need to do an oral exam).
- Exercises in the Moodle platform 5%
THE LABORATORY WORK, ORAL PRESENTATION/EXAM AND WRITING ASSIGNMENTS ARE COMPULSORY and no writing assignments will be accepted after JUNE 15 ( OR SEPTEMBER 10 in the case of September re-sits). Likewise all the laboratory work must be finished by these dates. Students who do not hand in the completed work will not pass the course.
THERE WILL BE NO PARTIAL EXAMS IN SEPTEMBER. The grammar test will cover units 9-18 of Grammar in Gobbets and the vocabulary exam, units 1-6.
If students pass some of the parts of the subject, their marks will be considered valid for one more academic year. Should students not pass the remaining parts in this time, they will have to resit the whole subject.
