OBJETIVOS DE APRENDIZAJE
The course will accomplish two tasks: to provide the basic tools required to study other topics
in macroeconomics (to be developed in the remaining courses of the macro sequence) and to
provide some answers to the fundamental question of why economies grow and why some
countries are much richer than others.

Assignments. There will be 4 problem sets. Cooperation in the assignments is encouraged,
but they should be written up individually. There will be a midterm in the sixth week that will
comprise the first two chapters. The final will be a three-hour exam given during exam week.
Evaluation. Evaluation will be based on a combination of the problem sets (20% of the grade),
the midterm (30% of the grade) and the final exam (50% of the grade). Minimum grade to pass
is 5 out of 10.
Those students with a grade below 5 will have a second opportunity in the corresponding
exam period.
