OBJETIVOS DE APRENDIZAJE

The course will accomplish two tasks: to provide the basic tools required to study other topics

in macroeconomics (to be developed in the remaining courses of the macro sequence) and to

provide some answers to the fundamental question of why economies grow and why some

countries are much richer than others.

Resultados de aprendizaje (Objetivos formativos)

  • El alumno debe ser capaz de leer razonadamente y evaluar de forma crítica artículos de investigación en Macroeconomía, captando cuáles son las contribuciones esenciales y las debilidades de cada uno de ellos. Además, el alumno debe ser capaz de entender cómo se han resuelto en cada caso los problemas técnicos con los que se han tenido que enfrentar los autores de estos artículos.
  • El alumno debe aprender a realizar pruebas de proposiciones y teoremas.
  • El alumno también debe ser capaz de comprender y replicar los análisis empíricos y los experimentos de simulación en que se basan las conclusiones presentadas en los artículos de investigación de otros autores.

Evaluación

Instrumentos y criterios de evaluación 2017-18

 

 

Assignments. There will be 4 problem sets. Cooperation in the assignments is encouraged,

but they should be written up individually. There will be a midterm in the sixth week that will

comprise the first two chapters. The final will be a three-hour exam given during exam week.

Evaluation. Evaluation will be based on a combination of the problem sets (20% of the grade),

the midterm (30% of the grade) and the final exam (50% of the grade). Minimum grade to pass

is 5 out of 10.

Those students with a grade below 5 will have a second opportunity in the corresponding

exam period.
