Course context for academic year 2017-18

In the today's world, where there is a striking hegemony of the English speaking countries, notably the United States, in the most diverse areas (economic, technological, military, cultural, etc.), it is of great interest to observe and examine the growing influence of their language, turned into the lingua franca of international communications.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2017-18

A study of the impact of English on modern languages, especially European, and particularly Spanish, from the different levels of linguistic analysis.

To get to know and analyze the mutual cultural influences between the English and Spanish speaking countries and their linguistic manifestations by way of borrowings in the various levels (morphological, lexical, semantic, etc.).
To value and show a positive attitude towards the language contact, as a reflection of the interaction of peoples and cultures
To value the procedures of selection and compilation of information in lexicographic works.
To know, identify, describe and analyze the macrostructure and microstructure of lexicographic works.
To know, describe and distinguish the various types of lexicographic works.
