Course context for academic year 2016-17

Adult Nursing Care II (27025) is a compulsory subject in the Degree in Nursing, which stands in the curriculum in the first semester of the third academic year. Essentially, this subject is vertically coordinated with the subjects Pathophysiology (27009), Fundamentals of Nursing II (27013) and Adult Care Nursing I (27019). Horizontally coordination is given to the subjects Practicum VII: Adult Nursing Care II (27026), Practicum VIII: Adult Nursing Care II (27027), and Practicum IX: Adult Nursing Care II (27028).

Care Adult Nursing II is structured in order to offer students an integrated vision of the different areas of study. Learning is gradual, progressive, cumulative, and thus, the student can receive, assimilate, analyze, implement and evaluate program content. In this sense, the theoretical learning coordinated with the practical / clinical learning, we think that will allow students to achieve a basic training for their future professional practice.

  • E-2 : Base the interventions of Health Science professionals on scientific evidence and the available resources.
  • E-3 : Establish evaluation mechanisms, taking into account scientific, technical and quality aspects.
  • E-4 : Understand health care information systems.
  • E-5 : Apply the necessary methods and procedures in your field to identify health problems.

  • 28 : Understand changes in the health of adults, identifying the manifestations that arise in the different stages.
  • 29 : Identify the caring needs derived from health problems.
  • 30 : Analyse data gathered during assessment, prioritise the problems of adult patients, establish and implement care plans and evaluate them.
  • 31 : Carry out nursing care techniques and procedures, establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and their relatives.
  • 32 : Select interventions aimed at treating or preventing problems associated with health deviations.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2016-17

Adult Nursing Care II attends to students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to:

  • Recognize and describe the prevalent health disorders in adults that affect the following systems: hematopoietic, lymphatic, immune, integumentary, neurological, sensory, upper respiratory and musculoskeletal.
  • Make nursing assessments holistically to the patients and their families, with heath problems that involve the systems: hematopoietic, lymphatic, immune, integumentary, neurological, sensory, upper respiratory and musculoskeletal.
  • Analyze the collected data in the patient assessments, in order to design, implement and evaluate care plans that address in depth the health problems detected, establishing priority criteria, individualization, and performance of the nurse in the different scenarios.
  • Perform nursing procedures indicated for patient care, by using simulation models in the laboratory, according to established protocols and applying security measures and quality standards in force.
  • Plan healthy lifestyles and self-care, which promote preventive and therapeutic behaviors in adults.
  • Help to detect the harmful effects of the environment on health and the harmful effects of the actions of people in the environment.
  • Improve and maintain a safe environment for all people receiving health care.
  • Provide and update information on the importance of a safe environment and its importance in daily life.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate nursing care related to patient safety.
