Course context for academic year 2015-16

La Biología es una asignatura formativa básica en el Grado de Biología, ya que su objetivo fundamental es ofrecer una visión general de los principales procesos biológicos y de la diversidad misma de la vida. Por tanto, resulta fundamental para los futuros biólogos, una comprensión adecuada de la disciplina que denote su enfoque multi- e interdisciplinario necesario para el entendimiento de la complejidad de los organismos y sistemas y de los procesos evolutivos.
El objetivo de este curso es proporcionar a los alumnos/as las herramientas necesarias para el estudio de la vida en este planeta Tierra, desde los acontecimientos históricos más relevantes que han permitido su estudio, hasta las más modernas técnicas que permiten hoy en día su avance. Constituye la Biología una ciencia de especial relevancia ya que se ha pasado en muy poco tiempo de una visión cercana de organismos a una visión cosmogónica no solo a la escala global del planeta ligado a problemas de origen antrópico sino más aún, en una extensión universal con la exobiología. La materia repasa las condiciones que ha tenido este planeta en sus orígenes para poder albergar vida, su evolución en el tiempo, viaja por la química de las moléculas que la componen, resume la clasificación de los seres vivos y estudia su interdependencia con el medio que les circunda.
La ubicación de esta asignatura en el primer semestre del primer curso permitirá que el alumno/a reciba una visión global suficiente de las distintas disciplinas biológicas que se desarrollarán a lo largo del programa formativo en cursos venideros. Por ello, dado su carácter generalista, ha de coordinarse adecuadamente con el resto de asignaturas del grado para garantizar la adquisición de las competencias genéricas atribuidas al módulo.
Esta asignatura proporciona los conocimientos básicos para afrontar con éxito el resto de asignaturas del grado, así como para el desarrollo de la actividad profesional futura del graduado en Biología, de acuerdo con las competencias atribuidas por los Estatutos del Colegio Oficial de Biólogos.

  • CE18 : Analyse the structure and functions of animal and plant viruses, cells, tissues, organs and systems.
  • CE2 : Relate the physical and chemical principles of Biology.
  • CE23 : Analyse the components of the physical environment: hydric, atmospheric and terrestrial and their relationship with the biotic environment.
  • CE25 : Relate the different interactions between species in the working of ecosystems.
  • CE27 : Relate the flows of energy and the biogeochemical cycles in the working of ecosystems.
  • CE4 : Recognise different levels of organisation in living systems.
  • CE5 : Understand the concept of life and know its origin and history, together with that of the Earth.
  • CE7 : Understand evolutionary mechanisms and models.

  • CE31 : Recognise and implement good scientific practices for measurement and experimentation.
  • CE32 : Safe handling: biological material, reagents, instruments and devices used in Biology.
  • CE33 : Carry out standard laboratory procedures involved in analytical tasks.
  • CE37 : Ability to find, analyse, understand and write scientific and technical texts.
  • CE40 : Relate Biology to other disciplines.
