Course context for academic year 2016-17

Estudiar de manera científica la delincuencia implica poder medirla. Con la asignatura de Técnicas de Investigación Cualitativa y Cuantitativa se busca que el alumnado disponga de las competencias cognitivas y procedimentales que le permitan superar las dificultades epistemológicas, metodológicas y técnicas inherentes en procesos de evaluación de, en general, la delincuencia. Estos son: el delito no es un concepto simple en tanto que está sujeto a su definición normativa (variable según el tiempo y el lugar); el delito es un concepto, hecho, multidimensionalidad pues incluye comportamientos y fenómenos muy dispares; en muchas ocasiones es complejo y dificultoso acceder a datos (cualitativos o cuantitativos) sobre el delito ya que, a menudo, es un fenómeno o conducta que permanece oculta o se oculta; no hay unificación en las fuentes de datos contando, pues, información parcial del fenómeno e, incluso, distante.

  • CE10 : Be able to explain and summarise empirical information and results of research into crime, victimisation and response to crime and deviation, and evaluate the methodology used (identify which methodology is the most appropriate, its ethical principles, results, etc.).
  • CE11 : Be able to draft a criminological report.
  • CE3 : Be able to extract and synthesise information from different sources, including: handling information and communication technologies, designing and applying appropriate research strategies for compiling data using quantitative and qualitative methods, and being able to apply basic statistical techniques to questions related to crime and victimisation when necessary.
  • CE5 : Be able to provide an analytical explanation of diversity and social inequality, as well as its consequences relating to criminal acts, victimisation and responses to crime and deviation.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2016-17

Con la asignatura Técnicas de investigación cuantitativas y cualitativas se pretende acercar al alumno al método científico y, en concreto, cómo éste se viene aplicando al estudio y análisis del fenómeno delictivo. Con esta finalidad, y tras la presentación del propio método científico, el curso se ha estructurado en torno a la exposición de aquellas técnicas de investigación más al uso en Criminología. Para cada una de ellas se expondrá su finalidad, características y particularidades, desarrollo, ventajas y limitaciones.
