Course context for academic year 2017-18

Qualitative Research and Nursing Development is an Optional Course intended to be taught in the 3rd year of the Nursing Undergraduate Programme at the University of Alicante. It consists of a total of 6 credits. 5 of them are theoretical and the other one is a practical credit.

Contents developed in this course are focused on introducing students to the fundamentals of qualitative research, which is considered of great importance for the training of healthcare professionals. The acquisition of knowledge of this course is based mainly on the use of specific qualitative research techniques applied to different situations of life, specifically related to health and disease/illness processes. The complexity of the human being is a wide phenomenon that should be understood by healthcare professionals and at this point, qualitative research fits in the task to achieve a professional holistic view of the experiences.
The course has been also thought to be attractive for those International incoming students (within the Erasmus Exchange Programme and other International Mobility ones) from overseas as well as for those Spanish Outgoing students. The course contents have been designed to be useful for International Students as an introduction to the Spanish Health System and the typical caring settings/contexts. Moreover, the course is taught 100% in English which makes the difference for those Spanish Students thinking of an International Experience during their Education or even for future Professional initiatives abroad.
