Course context for academic year 2016-17

Fundamentals of data communication networks. Network architectures. Systems and technologies for data communications: performance and standards. Techniques, protocols and devices for transmitting data. Local area networks and access networks. Wireless Networks. Networking and routing. Internet.

This course does not require to attend previous courses.

  • CT12 : Capacity to assimilate and adapt to the permanent evolution of technology when developing one's professional career.

  • C12 : Understand and use the concepts of network architecture, protocols and communications interfaces.
  • C13 : Capacity to differentiate the concepts of access and transport networks, circuit and packet switching networks, fixed and mobile networks, as well as distributed network systems and applications, voice, data, audio, video, interactive and multimedia services.
  • C14 : Understand the methods for interconnecting networks and routing, as well as the fundamentals of planning, sizing networks according to traffic parameters.
  • C6 : Capacity to conceive, deploy, organise and manage telecommunications networks, systems, services and infrastructures in residential (home, urban and digital communities), business and institutional contexts, as well as understanding their economic and social impact.
  • C7 : Understand and use the basic principles of programming for telecommunication networks, systems and services.

Study of the architecture of OSI and TCP / IP network. Communication protocols (physical, link, network and transport). Concepts of speed and multiplexing. Analysis and performance of the transmission medium. Networking. Access Technology LAN: Ethernet networks, wireless networks, ADSL, HFC.
